Reporting directly to Millie’s co-founder and Global Head Counselor Ariel Lau, you will be Millie’s first full-time Guidance Coach, responsible for delivering our core programs to international students around the world.

As part of the role, you will be in charge of supporting students to successfully apply to leading global universities (70-80% of your time). You will also be exposed to other key areas for Millie’s growth (20-30% of your time), across content production, business development, and ongoing professional development.

This is a role for someone looking to fledge their counseling skills across interesting and complex student applications, while at the same time supporting the establishment of an international startup recognized by institutions such as Forbes, Times Higher Education, and EdTechX, and accredited by IACAC, with plenty of personal and professional development growth opportunities.

About You:

You will be responsible for:
Student Success
  • Guiding students along their entire university application journey (10 to 15 students of varying year levels at any given time), from forming their desired university list all the way to helping them decide which offer to choose. This starts with providing an in-depth assessment of students’ academic performance and designing an appropriate university application roadmap. It entails working with other Millie team members to coordinate and follow up on the students’ progress continuously. It also includes brainstorming personal statement ideas with the students by asking appropriate guiding questions, reviewing personal statement drafts, and offering comments on how to improve.
  • Providing general tips to students that will help enhance their overall academic and extra-curricular profile, including but not limited to activities planning, assistance on personal projects, internship suggestions, summer school programs, standardized test planning, portfolio preparation, etc.
  • Reporting students’ progress to relevant parties, including the students themselves, their parents, their school counselors, and other Millie team members periodically and answering any questions or concerns they might have with regards to the university application process.
  • Utilizing effectively different online collaboration platforms to ensure timely communication.
Content Production
  • Hosting webinars (1 / month) to share insights on different university application-related topics, e.g. admission systems worldwide, personal statement writing, major navigating, etc.
  • Writing counselor- or parent-facing articles (1 / month) to be published on our blog
  • Contributing to our counselor and parent newsletter
Business Development
  • Attending or hosting (in-person or online) events on an ad-hoc basis, hosted directly by Millie or in conjunction with schools and other channel partners
  • Taking parent consultations (min. 5 / month) to inform parents about the best course of action for their children and advising about the best Millie programs
  • Taking part in business trips and roadshows to meet prospective and existing school partners, families, and other channel partners (c. 1 / quarter)
Professional Development
  • In line with our belief in lifelong learning, attending one seminar or taking one relevant professional development course every quarter
You as a candidate:
  • Expertise across major university application systems (UCAS, Common App, Coalition App, and Canadian application systems) and high school curricula (IB, AP, A Level).
  • Interpersonal awareness with students, parents, and school counselors. You understand that spending time getting to know students and interpreting how they feel and adapting to that is essential, especially when they don’t open up immediately or require time due to the amount of stress and workload they are under.
  • Effective communication skills when conveying sometimes difficult messages to students, parents, and school counselors, and when updating all different parties consistently.
  • Results orientation in leading students to success. This involves developing challenging but achievable goals, with complete clarity and accountability systems in place. This also involves maintaining a commitment to goals in the face of obstacles and frustrations, with a strong sense of urgency about solving problems and getting work done.
  • Thoroughness in delivering our programs. This includes a strong attention to detail and being meticulous across each task while having a relentless focus on not making mistakes that might be costly to the students. You are comfortable with checking the accuracy of your own and others’ work consistently and are able to develop and use systems to organize and keep track of information and work progress, managing multiple timelines and tasks at the same time.
  • Professionalism on a daily basis, when facing clients and key stakeholders, and in the way you conduct your work generally, adhering to the highest standards of integrity and trustworthiness.
You should have:
  • Strong academic credentials from a leading university
  • Relevant experience in educational consulting, university admissions, or in-school guidance counseling is a MUST
  • Having worked abroad, attended university in a country other than your own, or gone to an international high school, is a PLUS.
  • The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK
You will have:
  • Being part of an emerging company that is redefining the future of education
  • Building relationships with the Millie team, a set of talented individuals from all over the world, and receiving mentorship and guidance from Millie’s global network of mentors
  • Flexible career and development path, with a comprehensive onboarding and training programme and opportunities to gain a wide range of transferable skills in the first 2 years, leading to professional growth in guidance coaching, managerial or commercial roles.
  • Other perks:
    • Competitive salary
    • USD 1,000 personal development allowance per year, which can be used for any learning programmes you feel would be beneficial for you
    • USD 500 work from home setup one-off allowance
    • Pension scheme
    • 20 days annual leave
    • Membership of a coworking space
